Braking Systems

Brakes sometimes seem to be taken for granted by most car users. We all tend to just pump the brake pedal without actually giving much thought how important it is to make sure everything is working as it should for maximum performance and safety.

A & J Fleet Care can check your brakes and make any necessary adjustments or repairs to make sure your brakes perform as they should. So if you feel your brakes should be better, give us a call because a brake check can identify a potential problem in it's early stages and allowing it to be rectified before it has a significant cost or safety implication.

Heres a short descrption about the workings of brakes.

A brake is a mechanical device which inhibits motion, brakes are generally applied to rotating axles or wheels. Most commonly brakes use friction to convert kinetic energy into heat.

This friction is used to slow down the car.Friction brakes on cars store braking heat in the drum brake or disc brake while braking then conduct it to the air gradually.

So when the brake pedal of a modern vehicle with hydraulic brakes is pushed, ultimately a piston pushes the brake pad against the brake disc which slows the wheel down. On the brake drum it is similar as the cylinder pushes the brake shoes against the drum which also slows the wheel down.
